Vela Bags Join Mango’s Supply Chain to Replace Plastic

A Shared Vision for a Plastic-Free Supply Chain

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation, Seaman Paper has partnered with global fashion brand Mango to eliminate single-use plastics across international supply chains. At the heart of this collaboration is Vela™, a recyclable, paper-based alternative to traditional plastic polybags.

The partnership reflects a shared belief that packaging is not just a logistical necessity but a meaningful opportunity to reduce environmental impact at scale.

From Vision to Impact

Since 2020, Mango and Seaman Paper have worked closely to test and introduce Vela™ bags in key sourcing regions including Turkey, China, Portugal, Bangladesh, Spain, India, and Vietnam, as part of Mango’s Sustainable Vision 2030.

The results are tangible. By 2024, the use of Vela™ bags had eliminated more than 76.7 million plastic polybags from Mango’s supply chain. Today, over 66% of folded garments arriving at Mango’s logistics centers are packaged in FSC™-certified, recyclable Vela™ bags.

This transformation required rigorous testing at the factory level to ensure the bags could handle automated packing lines, protect garments in transit, and integrate smoothly with Mango’s systems.

Performance That Aligns With Purpose

Vela™ bags offer more than a sustainability statement. They perform under real-world supply chain demands, supporting high-volume distribution without compromising on quality or appearance. The bags are lightweight, durable, and customizable, with medium transparency that allows for easy barcode scanning and visual checks.

Their adoption has also supported Mango’s broader efforts to reduce box sizes and streamline packaging logistics, showing how environmental goals and operational efficiency can work in parallel.

Internal feedback has highlighted improvements in handling, user experience, and brand perception, reinforcing the business value of sustainable packaging choices.

A Partnership That Keeps Evolving

This is not a static solution. Mango and Seaman Paper continue to refine sizing, expand Vela™ into additional product categories, and improve distribution workflows across regions.

As a proud member of 1% for the Planet, Vela™ also contributes to programs focused on ocean preservation and nanoplastic research. These efforts extend the impact of packaging decisions beyond logistics, creating a more conscious and interconnected approach to product delivery.

This partnership represents more than a material swap. It is a working model for how brands can scale meaningful change, with results that speak for themselves.
