As its e-commerce presence expanded, packaging surfaced as an important opportunity for improvement. While the clothing itself met high sustainability standards, the protective packaging still relied heavily on plastic polybags, a material that no longer aligned with Pact's long-term vision for a cleaner, more responsible supply chain.
Like many apparel companies, Pact depended on single-use plastic polybags to keep garments protected from dust, moisture and handling during transit. Functionally, they worked. But strategically, they didn't. The plastic contradicted the brand's commitment to minimizing waste and complicated end-of-life disposal for customers and partners.
Pact evaluated alternatives across multiple dimensions: durability, supply-chain compatibility, end-of-life recyclability, brand aesthetics and global logistics readiness. Vela™ bags stood out because they offered a paper-based system designed for performance in demanding apparel fulfilment contexts, while enabling curbside recycling and aligning with responsible sourcing (e.g., FSC™-certified options).
After selecting Vela™ as its preferred alternative to plastic polybags, Pact began introducing the new paper bags across its fulfilment operations. Once validated, Pact started integrating the new packaging across its logistics workflow.
By shifting to Vela™ paper bags, Pact removed conventional plastic polybags from its garment packaging system. This transition allows customers to dispose of packaging through curbside paper recycling streams.
